SOUND ADVENTURES
From March to April 2021, Sound Adventures gave girls living in Kirklees the chance to start an exciting journey into music technology and sound. Participants came away with a fantastic set of technical and creative skills to inform and inspire their future explorations into the world of sound.
During the six-week course led by sound artist Jo Kennedy, participants learnt essential skills used by professional music producers and sound artists, including how to make good quality audio recordings and use a DAW (digital audio workstation) to edit and sculpt sound. Sounds created were then imaginatively ‘geolocated’ to build an immersive soundwalk with an environmental theme, that people can take using their smart phones using the Echoes app. As well as teaching new skills in sound recording, the project also focussed on how a range of artists use sound art to encourage people to care more about nature and the environment.
Companies & Artists involved: Yorkshire Sound Women Network & Lawrence Batley Theatre. Artist: Jo Kennedy. Technical Support: Charlotte Roe.
Soundwalks made by the participants can be accessed by downloading the Echoes mobile app here:
